On Friday we arrived at the Plitvice lakes. A destination we’ve been awaiting for a long time. So close to home and still it has been unreached by us until now.
We arrived Friday afternoon and we decided to try and save money, again, by not staying at a campsite but to find a hidden spot somewhere near the park. Prices in the park are quite high and we were also told that the police is omnipresent in and around the park. So parking on the side of the main road was a no-go.
We actually managed to find a spot about 10km from the entrance near a small village. People told us that the woman that stays at the house is not there at the moment so we can park here ;)
The following day was the day! And it was raining…
We decided to get out of bed early and be at the entrance at latest 7. We were there just before 8, but thats fine.
The early morning drizzle actually stopped for most part of the first couple of hours which was fantastic. Light rain also means, far less tourists and cool photo opportunities.
This national park is really unique. Everyone has to go there. But please, not all at once ;)
We paid €40 for the two of us which seems quite a lot at first, but when you see this special place and you see what is actually included, the price is quite alright. You will also take a trip on a ferry if you like, or two or three. Or you take the bus to the next lake if you don’t want to hike the whole park.
It definitely was one our best days so far despite the mixed weather conditions. Now we are off to Bosnia & Herzegowina!
